Your prom dress should fit securely, move comfortably and feel like it was selected just for you. Alter My Dress provides prom dress alterations in Philadelphia and Montgomery County, PA, with couture-level tailoring for prom, homecoming and other school formal dresses.
Our design team alters gowns purchased from boutiques, department stores and online retailers. Whether the dress needs a precise hem, bodice resizing, strap adjustment or more detailed work around lace, sequins or beading, each alteration is planned around the wearer, the garment’s construction and the event date.

Prom and homecoming dresses range from simple fitted styles to structured gowns with corsets, layered skirts, high slits and detailed embellishments. Each dress is evaluated individually before alterations are recommended.
The hem is adjusted for the wearer’s height, shoes and intended dress length. Satin, chiffon, tulle, lining and other skirt layers may need to be hemmed separately.
A prom dress may be taken in or let out where its construction and seam allowance permit. Adjustments can improve the fit through the bust, waist, hips and back.
Straps may be shortened, lengthened or repositioned, and sleeves can be adjusted for a more secure and comfortable fit.
Depending on the dress, the neckline may be adjusted or coverage may be added to help the wearer feel comfortable and confident.
A dress slit may be raised, lowered or secured when the garment’s construction and available fabric allow.
Zippers, corset backs, hooks, buttons and other closures may be adjusted or replaced to improve fit and function.
Lace, sequins, beads and appliqués may need to be carefully removed and reapplied so the dress can be altered without disrupting its original design.

Bring the prom or homecoming dress, event shoes and the undergarments or shapewear that will be worn with it. The design team evaluates the length, fit, support and movement while the dress is being worn.
We identify the adjustments needed through the hem, bodice, waist, hips, straps, sleeves, neckline or slit. Any limitations created by the fabric, seams, structure or embellishments are explained during the fitting.
The recommended alterations, estimated cost and fitting schedule are reviewed before work begins. The event date is considered when planning the project.
The approved work is completed, and an additional fitting may be scheduled when needed. Significant resizing, layered skirts, corset construction and detailed embellishment work may require more than one fitting.
The finished dress is checked with the planned shoes and undergarments to confirm its length, security, comfort and movement before prom or homecoming.

Schedule the first fitting approximately four to eight weeks before prom or homecoming whenever possible. Dresses requiring significant resizing, multiple skirt layers, corset adjustments or detailed lace, sequin and beadwork may need additional time. Prom-season appointments can fill quickly, so book as soon as the dress and event shoes are available. If the event is approaching, use the appointment form to check whether rush alterations can be accommodated.
The cost of prom dress alterations depends on the garment’s fabric, construction, number of layers and embellishments, as well as the type and extent of the required adjustments. A basic hem or strap alteration generally involves less work than significant resizing, corset changes or alterations to a heavily beaded gown. Alter My Dress must evaluate the prom or homecoming dress while it is being worn before providing an accurate quote. The recommended alterations and estimated cost will be reviewed during the fitting before work begins.

Prom and homecoming dress fittings are available by appointment at both Alter My Dress locations. Bring the dress, event shoes and the undergarments or shapewear that will be worn with it so the length and fit can be evaluated accurately.
