Every bridesmaid deserves a dress that fits comfortably and complements the bride’s vision for the wedding party. Alter My Dress provides bridesmaid dress alterations in Philadelphia and Montgomery County, PA, with couture-level attention to fit, proportion and finishing.
Our design team alters dresses for bridesmaids, maids of honor, matrons of honor and other members of the bridal party. Whether the gown was ordered through a bridal salon, purchased online or selected from a ready-to-wear collection, each dress is fitted to the individual wearing it while preserving a cohesive bridal-party look.

Bridesmaid dresses vary in fabric, construction and sizing, even when every member of the bridal party orders the same style. Each gown is evaluated and fitted individually.
The hem is adjusted for the wearer’s height, shoes and the intended dress length. Chiffon, satin, tulle, lining and other skirt layers may need to be hemmed separately.
A bridesmaid dress may be taken in or let out where its construction and seam allowance permit. Adjustments through the bust, waist, hips and back can create a more secure and flattering fit.
Straps can be shortened, lengthened or repositioned, and sleeves may be adjusted to improve fit, comfort and movement.
Depending on the dress, the neckline may be adjusted or coverage may be added to help the wearer feel comfortable while maintaining the selected bridal-party style.
Zippers, hooks, buttons and other closures may be adjusted or replaced when needed for fit and function.
Maternity alterations are planned around the wearer’s stage of pregnancy, event date and the dress’s available fabric and construction. Additional fittings may be recommended as the wedding approaches.
Lace, sequins, beads or appliqués may need to be removed and reapplied so the dress can be altered without disrupting its original details.

Each bridesmaid is fitted in her own dress. Bring the shoes and undergarments or shapewear that will be worn at the wedding so the length, support and overall fit can be evaluated accurately.
The design team identifies the adjustments needed through the hem, bodice, waist, hips, straps, sleeves or neckline. Any limitations created by the dress’s fabric, seams or construction are explained during the fitting.
The recommended work, estimated cost and fitting schedule are reviewed before alterations begin. Each bridesmaid receives a quote based on her dress and required adjustments.
The approved alterations are completed, and an additional fitting may be scheduled when needed. Significant resizing, maternity alterations, layered skirts and detailed embellishment work may require more than one fitting.
The finished dress is checked with the planned shoes and undergarments to confirm its length, comfort, movement and fit before the wedding.

Schedule the first fitting approximately four to eight weeks before the wedding whenever possible. Dresses requiring significant resizing, multiple skirt layers, detailed embellishment work or extensive adjustments may need additional time.
Bridesmaids should have their wedding shoes and planned undergarments before the fitting. Maternity bridesmaids can reserve an appointment early, although the fitting schedule may be adjusted so final alterations are completed closer to the wedding date. Appointment availability becomes limited during peak wedding and prom seasons, so booking early is recommended.
The cost of bridesmaid dress alterations depends on the dress’s fabric, construction, number of layers and embellishments, as well as the type and extent of the required adjustments. A basic hem or strap alteration generally requires less work than significant resizing, maternity alterations or changes to a structured or heavily detailed dress.
Each bridesmaid dress must be evaluated while it is being worn before Alter My Dress can provide an accurate quote. The recommended alterations and estimated cost will be reviewed during the fitting before work begins.

Bridesmaid dress fittings are available by appointment at both Alter My Dress locations. Each bridesmaid should bring her dress, wedding shoes and the undergarments or shapewear she plans to wear.
